On Writing Your Book
By Pastor Jack Hayford
Have you heard about the book were writing? I dont
mean the book projects Ive tackled with various Christian
publishers. I mean the one we are writing. You. Me. Us. We. Those
of us who own Jesus as Savior and Lord.
A book opens before us today. This month. This new year. It is
a book with blank pages. The Lord has said He will print and publish
it. He will accomplish it by His power. He is waiting for us to
write
to reach forth our hand, to inscribe by faith, to respond
to His invitation to see a new thing brought forth.
A whole assortment of Bible references rush to mind on writing
books of this kind:
- John 21:25 ends with the words, "I suppose that even the
world itself could not contain the books that would be written."
John was talking about all that Jesus does by His miracle power.
- The Book of Acts begins by asserting its contents are the continuing
record of Jesus doings. Significantly, its twenty-eighth
chapter has no "amen" concluding it. The Acts of the
Holy Spirit go on and on. Who will write them? Will you?
- Revelation 20:12-13 shows the unsaved being judged from books
that were written by their life-deeds.
- Second Corinthians 3:2-3 indicates clearly that our lives are
letters that are being written and declared-in-deed to those around
us.
- Matthew 25:14-30 reveals how Jesus will settle the books with
us at His return. We will be judged as to how faithful we have
been with the life-ministry opportunities He has entrusted to
us through the years.
All of this points to one disturbing, challenging fact:
The Sovereign God of the universe has committed
Himself to write the history of earth.
But, He has willed to do it through human instruments, and invites
you and me to respond with chapters of bold accomplishments done
in Jesus Name. You probably feel as I do, when such an enormous
truth begins to dawn upon you: "What can I do? Its too
much for me."
But wait. Remember the power is HIS. He is the Publisher. Hes
simply looking for writers; for people who will trust the power
of His Holy Spirit to work in the common, ordinary affairs of their
daily livesfamily, business, relationships, schoolwork, difficulties,
ministry opportunities.
Its because these mundane details of life are the decisive,
history-making points of life that we teach as we do: Your ministry
is significant. Wonder-fully, frighteningly significant.
God offers to you and meto all who livea blank book
of possibilities, and now asks what we are going to write. Lets
write with wisdom, and in big letters!
