Triumphal Reentry
By Pastor Jack Hayford

I saw the King last night, He was reentering the gates,
But the scene somehow was different than before.

There were praising hosts and children singing loud hosannas there,
As He passed in triumph through Jerusalem’s door.

But their hands did not hold branches and their coats were not cast down,
And the King did not an ass’s colt employ.

But each greeter held a trumpet, and their glist’ning garments wore
Lifting praise to Him whose entry all enjoyed.

And the King was on a stallion white, a mighty prancing steed,
And a glorious air the greeters’ voices raised:

“Hail the Conquering One, King Jesus, who has gone forth conquering—
King of Glory, enter now these gates called Praise.”

Then I knew it was a vision—calling me beyond my view,
Which till then was bound to past or future planes:

Until now “Triumphal Entry” only spoke of history,
Or of prophecy when Jesus comes again.

Only spoke of that Palm Sunday long ago when children sang,
Or of that day when our once and future King

Shall return in clouds of glory and reenter Zion’s gates,
And as Earth’s Redeemer the His Kingdom brings.

But this Holy Spirit vision brought new wonder to my soul,
As His truth like sunrise dawned so gloriously.

He was bringing understanding for our present struggles here,
Off’ring present triumph now for you and me.

So today, behold this vision. Holy Spirit, help us all
Clearly hear John’s Revelation—all it tells.

How that One upon a white horse, charges forward as we pray,
Daily warring, conquering darkest hosts of hell.

“He went conq’ring and to conquer,” so the prophecy relates,
And in speaking thus describes repeated wars,

How our Lord who left Jerus’lem after that first Triumph day
Now through Calv’ry’s vict’ry conquers evermore.

Daily comes through gates of glory where pure hearts lift up their praise,
As they face their battles with His triumph-song:

“Hail, King Jesus, Mighty Conq’ror, once the Lamb of Calvary,
Now you’ve mastered death and evil, sin and wrong.”

And I saw how as we praise Him, He reenters even now—
Rides to meet His own—just one, or praising throng.

He will enter our Jerus’lem, then go forth—again, again—
Forth to conquer sin and evil, just as long...

Just as long as wise hearts worship, just as long as some still know,
That the battle is not ours, it is the Lord’s.

And as praise goes forth, so He does; and new victories secures,
And new triumph scenes become our great reward.

So lift ceaseless praise, redeemed ones, singing, “Worthy is the Lamb,
Who as Judah’s Lion roars upon His prey.”

His the battle, ours the worship; His the triumph, ours the song;
His reentry ours to sing at every day.
